A leap of Faith ( The Deaf Frog)

This story was related to me, and I found it truly inspiring, and therefore decided to share it.

We all have choices in life. The choice we make, is the life we live. To listen and learn is an invaluable activity in our daily life. If you choose words of wisdom, you learn a lot. If however, you choose not to listen, there is no intellectual growth. It is therefore, also important to turn a deaf ear to gossip and harmful slander.

This story is about a deaf frog. There was a small group of frogs travelling through the woods, and two of them fell into a pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two helpless frogs that they would never get out.
The two frogs ignored them, and tried desperately to jump up to get out of the pit.
The other frogs kept telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs, listened, and gave up. He then fell back down into the pit and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he possibly could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop his jumping, as it was causing him pain and suffering, and was rather a futile attempt to escape.

However, the frog refused to listen and jumped higher, using all of his strength and with persistent effort, he finally made it out of the pit.
The other frogs were surprised at his perseverance, and gathered around him. They were wondering why he continued jumping, as if he didn’t hear their pleas.
In sign language, the heroic frog motioned that he was actually deaf, and he thought they were cheering and encouraging him, telling him that he could do it.

The lesson gained from this story is that there is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down in life, can actually lift them up, and they can make it to the top. However, a destructive, harsh word to someone who’s down in life, can kill them. So we have to be careful what we speak.
Speak only when your words are sweeter than Silence!
A slip of the tongue is no fault of the mind. Choose words wisely. They can either make, break, hurt or help. Words when uttered, will always be judged by your actions.
Even if you are not deaf, turn a deaf ear to nonsense or gossip!

Aum Sai Ram.
