REFLECTION OF ACTION

This story was related to me by one of my devotees.

There was a beautiful, wonderful elderly lady who was GOD conscious and free spirited. She had a husband and a son. The son was despatched to the army to serve his country.

She was always busy with normal housework and regular duties of a housewife. She would make rotis [an Indian bread], and prepare meals for her husband. She had a habit of leaving a roti , that she had prepared at her window sill for the birds. One particular day, a hunchback beggar saw this roti and decided to take it. Upon taking the roti, he said these words very loudly: “The good you do will stay with you… the bad you do will come back to you.” The lady saw the beggar and heard him. The next day the lady went back to her routine, of leaving a roti at the window sill. The hunchback man once again took the roti and repeated the words: “The good you do will stay with you… the bad you do will come back to you. ” This went on for a few days. The lady was getting rather anxious and also a little annoyed, trying to figure out why the hunchback kept repeating these particular words.

She then decided to teach him a lesson. She decided to poison the roti. The next day, as usual, the hunchback beggar arrived to help himself to the roti. He was about to pick up the roti, when the ladies inner conscience got the better of her and she immediately changed the roti for a good, safely edible one! The hunchback man repeated the same words and then went on his way as usual. Later that day, there was a knock on her door. To the old lady’s surprise, it was her son. He had just returned from the army. He looked rather tired and hungry. As is usually the case with a mother’s instinctive maternal concern, she requested him to have a wash so that she could serve him his meal. What he said to his mother, left her totally shocked. He said on his way home, he met a hunchback man and he told him that he was so hungry. The hunchback man without hesitation offered him a roti to appease his hunger. The man told him that a kind lady left it daily on her window sill for him. At that moment the words of the man echoed ever so strongly in the old lady’s mind…. “The good you do will stay with you… the bad you do will come back to you.”

So it’s your choice: Help or hurt! The law of the universe states: Be good, Do good and Stay good!

Remember there is Good Karma and Bad Karma. It is what it is. THE LAW OF KARMA.
